Oh yes, that would be me.
Cait has been fighting a cold for almost two weeks now. I thought it wasn't that bad because it never really developed into her nose. The goopy stuff kind settled in her eyes. I decided to let it "run its course." She told me a few times over the course of the almost two weeks her ears hurt her, but I figured it was because Madison had just said the same thing a few seconds earlier. Monday, I thought it had been long enough and called the doctor for an appointment. I figured I was super busy on Monday, so I would make it for Tuesday morning (another criteria for the worst mother, "what is one more day?") I took her in and told the doctor the whole story. She immediately looked in her nose, and throat (I am sure just to make me feel I wasn't a complete idiot) and then she said, lets look in your ears, because some times when the eyes goop up and won't clear, it is because..oh yes, she has an ear infection in both ears.
I just felt about 2 1/2 inches tall. Poor Cait, she is such a trooper. That is the danger of having GREAT sick kids. I don't ever know when they are truly sick. Madison is the same way. They must have a high tolerance for pain.
She handed me a prescription for Amoxocillin and sent us on our way. Cait woke up this morning for the first time with out her eyes matted shut. That girl has been sleeping like a champ. You have to love Amoxocillin!
I have been working on my acceptance speech, but any speech starting with I am sorry, seems to need a little help.

It is incredible that she had an infection in both ears and was still ice skating and carrying on like life was great. You are lucky I am sure! Ahhh, poop happens and you are a great mother all the way around and surely the doctor didn't think twice about it. We are our own worst critics.
my child has a sinus infection for the third time since sept. and has been ice skating and all kinds of other stuff. we are the ear nose throat sufferers of the town and she will be fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!she would have let you know if the pain was that bad. dont beat yourself up. its okay to let your body try to fight off the illness first then you really know you need the antibiotic. and you are a great mom we all know that. you dont have one dust ball on your floor. col
I once let Alan go with an ear infection for a few days - until he woke up screaming with a very high temperature. Then I asked the doc if he'd really be able to tell if it was an ear infection if I brought him in. (I thought maybe I'd have to wait for some test result... silly me) I'll happily let you hold my trophy - til I win it back, probably next week!
I know the feeling! Ear infection over here too... we suck! :)
Actually, I say we are doing the best we can with the knowledge we have. What more can you expect!? She obviously wasn't in horrendous pain or you would have known. It was probably annoying pain and nothing too catastrophic! Kids are set up with high pain thresholds!
