Webkinz vs Beanie Babies.

How many of you have heard of Webkinz? Madison has an older cousin who is into them. She has seen her play with them and has also played with them when she is at her house and Madison thought she needed them.

Let me just say, anyone who is thinking of entering the Webkinz world and their children are not in possession of their own computer and are unable to work their computer as well as you are, DON'T DO IT! It is actually designed for a little bit older children, but since she has them, we started. Guess who has to play the silly games, answer the silly questions, and make sure the darn things are fed and put to bed?? (Now mind you there is Webkinz money to be earned in doing all of this and to be able to buy food, rooms, furniture, or anything else, you have to have Webkinz money) Oh yes, that is just another one of my jobs.

Now the feeding and some of the daily activities, I try and involve Madison, but some of the things she just isn't good enough yet on the computer or the knowledge questions are too old.
Over the course of December and the first 6 days of January, she has accumulated four of them and Cait has two (although we really don't do anything with Caits. She is just too young and I refuse to have her stealing even MORE of my computer time!)

I don't know if you know my husband personally, but if you do, you would know that he seems to have a personal love affair with the laptop (and he will settle for the desktop if that is all that is available!) Now he isn't too picky, any computer will do. He can be at my parents house, his sister's house or even his mother's house. There is no secrecy there. He has cut back on his relationship the last couple of weeks though, for that I am very happy! Thanks honey! (A little side note in his defense, he uses it for work. Things could pop up at any given time and the more he checks it, the better his chance are of getting something better) The reason I was telling you this is I have a hard enough time getting on the computer with him, now to add Madison in the mix... Seriously, I can't let it affect my blogging and my blog reading. Reading blogs have become part of my daily routines. As I find more and more, I need more and more time on the computer, not less because my FOUR year old has to feed her cow, koala, lion, and pug dog!

Anyway, about the title of this blog. Do any of you remember BEANIE BABIES? I was a serious junkie for them. I was dating Randy at the time and I remember telling him, why spend that kind of money on flowers, buy that amount on beanie babies. Well, needless to say, he did and I have MANY MANY of them backed away. But here is the thing, beanies cost like 5 bucks. Webkinz cost three times that amount. Beanies were small and could get put in a pocket. Webkinz are the size of a regular stuffed animal. (speaking of full sized, Madison is up to 13 animals in her bed at night. That is including her 4 Webkinz, but she isn't going to have too much room for her left if this continues.) Beanies come with names. Do you know how hard it is to think of names for these things? Especially when you are trying to get a four year old to commit to a name?
(the final names Maggie moo *duh, that is the cow*, Leo the Lion *I know, real original right? She thought it was pretty cool!*, Lola the Koala *I thought I did pretty well on that one, although I keep thinking of the Barry song, "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl!", And the final one, the one her Auntie Foph got her, the one she has wanted from the beginning, Taylor the Pug dog *She LOVES Taylor Swift, the 17 year old beautiful blond country singer, that one was all her, I tried to get Penelope, but she couldn't say it too well.*) (Cait's names are Meow the cat, SHUT UP and quit laughing, I was trying to get a name Cait could remember!, and Bernie the St. Bernard.)
Okay, to give the Webkinz some credit, I am amazed how quickly Madison has gotten the hang of the site. She can push buttons and get to some places she chooses. The funny thing is she can't read, so it is all through memorization. I am sure she is going to have better computer skills than me soon enough, and this site is just one stepping stone.

Did anyone else collect them, or was I the only poor sap sucked into the TY corporation, making MR. TY CEO a rich man? If it wasn't Beanie Babies, there has to be something out there you collected... Garbage Pail Kid Cards, Baseball cards, Cabbage Patch kids, Some sort of figurine? And Music doesn't count. Most everyone collects music and it isn't a fad. I want some of you BEST fad collections! (oh and I still have my Garbage pail kid cards... DO you think they are worth a million dollars yet? Yah, I didn't think so either!)

I've been thinking....and thinking....and honestly, NO, I never collected anything. I CAN'T believe it because it would be SO like me to do so.

Actually, do shoes count? Because I have been collecting those since I could talk. Seriously, if I was having a bad day, my mom would take me to the shoe store and let me go wild! I didn't always need to take a pair home with me (even though I would never turn down a pair..duh), but I just HAD to touch them. To this day,I'm still the same way. I buy the shoes first, and then I'll find an outfit to match!!!

I bought a pack of Garbage Pail kid cards when they first came out because I thought they were Cabbage Patch Kid cards. It wasn't until I opened them and saw "Atom Bomb"--this sweet little CPK with a nuclear explosion coming out of his head that I realized they weren't what I thought! SO, I gave them away to the neighborhood boys. I bet that Atom Bomb card would be worth a fortune now......Damn.

I never really collected anything either. I mean, I did have three Cabbage Patch Kids.....but....nothing really that qualifies as a collection! I'm kind of anti-collecting. Because once the word gets out that you collect stuff everyone gets it for you until the end of time even when you're sick of them!

I think you should sell your Beanies on Ebay!! :)

So what you two are saying is I am one of the only freaks out there??:) I have thought of selling the beanies, but I thought I would hold on to them a little longer until they aren't circulating any longer. Then I will get rid of them. They are only about 11 or 12 years old.

You could just recycle your beanies through your girls. Julia got a Webkinz for her birthday from my brother and his family. I registered the thing on the site, but she's never even looked at it. I think she knows that it has something to do with the computer, but she plays games on pbskids and everythinggirl and has a couple of computer games on discs... I felt like she had enough computer time already and I'm glad she loves Gigi (the German Shepherd) so much and doesn't care to play the games. The grandparents have given the girls beanies, too, and they are some of the favorite animals around the house... I collected pigs when I was little, but that just meant I ended up with pig figurines and some pig stuffed animals and other random things with pigs on them. Nothing worth anything now!

Not beanie babies or cabbage patch for me - but totally Garbage pail kids. I don't have or never had an actual "collection" of things, but got a lot of cow stuff for a while after I expressed how cute I thought they were (we lived on a cow ranch, but all black and I loved the white and black ones).

FYI - Ben went to SOS. That was the reason for the road trip.

Webkinz make me laugh. The whole idea of caring for your pet (that you're physically holding!) over a computer monitor is insane. Genius idea for the inventors and marketing team but seriously? Really a good way to learn some computer skills though, hey!

About your Beanie collection, you're not a freak! LOL! Those beanies were marketed to be so exclusive and one-of-a-kind-limited-edition, it would be easy to get wrapped up in them. Oh, and they were cute! I never really got into collecting anything other than Strawberry Shortcake dolls that I played with. Soon, I plan to bust the strawberry-licious vault wide open to share my collection with Elaina. Again, I'm a sucker for "cute."
