OH MY!

We have a demolition date. Randy is working the next 10 days straight and then right after that, MY KITCHEN WILL BE NO MORE! I got all uptight about having things a certain way and then I realized, seriously, I lived in base housing for the first 8 years of my marriage. I think anything will be great and better than what we have now.

Oh you want to know details???

Do we have a design?...UHHH, no!?

Are we having someone come in and remodel for us? uhh no, that is Randy!

Have we picked out anything (appliances, cabinets, counter tops etc)? Uhh no!

Do you have colors picked out since the color of the kitchen has to go throughout the family room because there is no break? Uhh No

Am I nervous? (believe it or not) No!

Randy's dad is driving in for I think a couple of weeks to help him. That takes a huge weight off of my shoulders because sometimes when Randy gets into projects, he forgets that I am a weakling (I never used to be, but seem to have acquired that trait in the last decade) and when he needs help, he calls me.. HELLO.. weakling. We have had a couple designers in here, but are just waiting to get them in hand. We have been in contact with them along the way, so we have a general idea of what we are going to do. The cabinets, I have been looking at cabinets since we moved in here. it will just be narrowing down and picking the right ones. The counter tops, we are leaning towards Sile stone but are also considering granite. The appliances we are either going to go with Samsung (their refrigerator is AMAZING) or Kenmore series. We have decided to go with hardwood. When I open up the two rooms, I just can't bare the thought of tearing up perfectly good original hardwood floors. We are probably going to go with unfinished ones and have someone come in and match/refinish the entire first floor. Randy asked me the other day to start thinking where I want my lights and switches. HELLO! I have been figuring that out since the first day I moved in here. That is a no brainer. Randy will have the cabinets put in professionally. They are just a pain in the butt to get EXACTLY right. That and tile were the two things I wanted professionally done and since we are doing hardwood, the tile is a non issue. We may have to have part of a wall rebeamed because the wall we are taking out is a load bearing wall. That will definitely be done by a professional. The same guy that did my FABULOUS master bath will do the beaming.

So we will roll with whatever comes. Even though it seems like we are totally disorganized, it should really pull together, right now it is just all fanned out. We won't be out of a kitchen really either. Down in the basement, the girls have a playroom, there is a deep utility sink, a bathroom, my old kitchen table and a family room. I will take down my toaster oven (I full up cooked in that for 6 months in Korea) I will get a single burner, and we have a refrigerator down there. the only thing I won't have is a dishwasher. It will be like a little apartment down there. AUGUST 11! I will take before pictures this week, and then of course progress reports throughout.

Please please don't let my baby be that big.....

Sorry. Was this blog about something other than childbirth?

Kidding, kidding....anyway, I am sure it will be chaos at your house for a while, but it will all be worth it when you're in your NEW kitchen.

How exciting!! I'm impressed that you can be so non-obsessive with perfection. When we were contemplating doing more than new countertops I soothed the perfectionist in me by telling myself it didn't really matter because we'd be moving soon anyway. I like your attitude! (and I've been annoyed by that spam thing, too!)

YAY!!!!! KITCHEN TIME!! i really, really, really wish i coul come help...i love that kind of work, and we all know how much I love to obsess about paint. The people at our local benjamin moore store actually asked me if I wanted a job.

It is so exciting, i cant wait to watch your progress. Ill keep any jealousy over your opportunity to gut it and pick EVERYTHING to a minimum. It is so much easier when you aren't trying to work around elements you can't justify removing, but wouldn't have chosen.
So so fun!

Can't wait to see pics of your new kitchen! I'm impressed that you're doing it yourselves - You guys are so handy :)

I agree with you Katie - I hope my baby is nowhere near that size - can you image if she carried to full term?!

Holy smokes. That is HUGE news about the kitchen! GOOD LUCK! I will (obviously) be coming back to hear updates. You are a BRAVE WOMAN, but it will be so much better in the end!

Can't wait to hear how the demo and reconstruction goes. It was a long road for us, but Ben wasn't super excited about it in the first place. I cannot wait to see pics!

Thanks for the plug ;0)

Brave woman! I could never do that but then again I think your way might be better because I can never make up my mind.
