I survived the second of four sessions!

So I went to the trainer again today. The first day we worked through cardio and she showed me different things to do on each machine. The main thing she talked about was interval training. So when I walk on the treadmill, I am suppose to walk for three minutes between 3.5-4mph, and then 6 or better for a minute. She told me really only 30-45 minutes is plenty. The schedule she has set up for me will only take an hour or so. That is really good, because I am so not one of those people that can go to a gym and workout for 2 or three hours.

Anyway, the stair master is the same way just shorter intervals. 30 seconds at a higher resistance and 1 minute recovery time. And the other thing was kind of like an elliptical, but it is a little harder. The name escapes me now, but it was quite a workout. She also had me go only 15 minutes on two or three different machines to avoid getting bored. Believe me, I am easily bored without someone to talk to so to have to pay attention to the time and keep switching.

Today was the lower body for weights. I was so happy with the workout. Again, I am not into working 80 machines and having to remember all that stuff. She was very simple and I think I will be able to keep it up (hopefully)

So here goes. I start out on this squat machine. The brand is FREE MOTION. You kind of sit back a little on a back rest. She had me put my feet together (works the inner thighs more) I did one set of twelve (it was only 60lbs. I know a wimp, but that is why I am there right?) Then I went to one of those half exercise balls (I think they are called Bose balls or something like that) and I did a 12 sit ups where I laid flat on the ball and did a cross sit-up. Then went back to the second set of squats and then the second set of sit -ups. Then went on to the quads. I lay down and do that machine because I have a bad knee and the sitting machine that does the same thing puts too much pressure on it. I did one set of 12 and then went back to that half ball. I laid down on my belly and did reverse sit-ups with a twist (12 ) then back to the quad machine for 12 and reverse sit-ups for 12.

Then on to the calf raises. 12 of those and then on to the dreaded lunges (12. When that gets too easy, add some weight). Back to the calf raises and then lunges again, and that is the end of the workout. It took about 30 minutes and then off to cardio for 30 or so minutes. The next sessions on Thursday will be upper body. Then the last of the four sessions will be when she kicks my tail. I am actually looking forward to that. I will be nice to see how far she can push me. A little Jillian if you will. She isn't getting too intense with the weights because I told her I don't want to put on any weight, just get a little stronger.

I will let you know how the upper body goes. I hope this helps anyone that was wondering how to work out and if I didn't explain something well enough, let me know and I will try to explain it better.

Wow! I'm so impressed (and a little jealous, honestly!) I so need to work out. I so WANT to work out (if it involves child care, that is). I never, EVER thought of moving to different cardio machines every 15 minutes. That was a total "aha!" moment for me. It makes perfect sense....and yet...I could have never figured it out on my own. Seriously! Good for you for doing all this!

Sounds like it is all worth it! Thanks so much for sharing, I love to work out, but have gotten bored after the years. Now I am newly inspired!

So how are you feeling a few days after? I like the idea of switching cardio machines, too... would seem to help with boredom but also probably keeps you from getting engrossed in a book!

Oh my backside is SCREAMING! It is a good scream.. It is nice to know that I still have the potential for muscle back there. I have figured out the core training did nothing (it was either not enough or not hard enough and the front of my legs are not sore, so maybe I need to have it Tomorrow, upper body, dear Lord, help me.
