I am 7 for 8

We have painted 8 rooms/areas in the house since we moved in. In seven of the rooms, I walk in and just gaze at the color. I truly am relaxed when I walk in. Well, the 8th one, I didn't get so lucky. Randy painted the hallway upstairs for me before Thanksgiving. I have been really trying to like the color ever since. I know it is a big pain to repaint and there is new trim and a brand new hardwood floor this time around. I have come to the conclusion I just am not satisfied with the color. It is a "tan" color from Lowe's brand Valspar. The color is 'Sand Stone'. After getting it on the walls, it has enough of a pink tint that I am not happy. (I would take a picture, but I don't think it would capture the color well enough.) What is a girl to do but tape it and repaint it. Picking out the new color...well, I am a little gun shy. I have looked and looked at the paint chips (I do believe I have at least one chip of every color Lowe's offers!) and since I still like 'Sand Stone' on the paint chip, I am a little perplexed. The master bedroom color is called Smoked Oyster (same brand as above.) I REALLY love that color, but think maybe it is a little too dark for the hallway and will make it look too narrow. My sister (thank you Steph) said maybe I should go one lighter on that same paint chip. So that is what I am doing. That color is Oatlands Subtle Taupe. When the Smoked oyster is on the wall, it is a 'tan' but it has more of a green/brown/grey tint to it (it really is pretty, even if it doesn't sound so)The Oatlands Subtle Taupe kind of reminds me of coffee with WAY too much creamer in. Brown, but a little too much white to make it muted. (Do you believe I was an Art major in college? Surely I would be able to a)decided on color, b)describe colors better, and c)not have to complain about it, but ahh me, I seem to fall under d)none of the above)
Anyway, Randy is out getting the paint now. I told him I would paint it since he has already painted it once. I know painting is not his favorite although he has done most of it so far. I guess we will see how it goes. Wish me luck, it is a hallway right? It can't be that bad right? Oh wait, don't answer that.

I must go take a nap during what is left of the girls napping. I think I am going to need all the energy I can muster!

Good luck! I know the feeling. We painted our living room in NC a nice cocoa color, but on the wall it had a pink or purple hue I didn't notice on the paint chip. Lucky for me we were moving out soon...

Be careful - paint chips on a color strip do not have the same ratio of color components in them. sometimes, they do not even all have the same color components. You can always tell them that you want a color (e.g. the oytster) but that you want to 1/2 the strength or ad xparts white. The same works if you want to deepen a color that you love. You can ask them to add x parts black.

I'm kind of a paint crazy person so feel free to ignore me!

Damn, maryb, Randy just got back with the paint. I guess i really need the luck now! Actually that is great information. Living in base houses for 8 years, there wasn't a whole lot of color on my walls. I am new to the paint world.

I think you're going to love the new shade you picked. I really do. It is so similar to the other areas that I think it will draw everything together!

Do you want to bring the girls over here while you paint (please?)?

tape them (paint samples) on the wall and look at them as the light changes throughout the day and with the artificial light.

Don't worry. It is going to be great. I'

ve been in two houses that needed paint in every room. And, somehow, Ive ended up picking out paint colors for all of my friends' various rroms so Ive ended up making good friends with the paint store people. I am trly paint crazy. I have two interior designer friends that Ive learned from. The nuances of colors and how they play in a room have become obsessions for me.

I can tell that you have great taste and that your home is beautiful. Id love to be able to hop over for some coffee and admire it!
