***Update*** End of day 3. We are pretty much set on a design, he is just drawing up the final changes, We have the appliances picked out (although we were going to do LOWE's but they wouldn't work with Randy and the financing, best buy is doing like two years or something and lowe's isn't doing anything. So we are going to get them from best buy.) The floor and underfloor are completely gone. And everyone still has all their appendages.
Cait is on antibiotics. Her bug bites are infected. She seems to be taking the medicine just fine. I on the other hand open it up and seriously want to vomit every time. It smells SO horrible. That should kick in tomorrow. We are all tired, but hold our own.
I am sorry this has turned into a remodel blog and not This and That. It should return to its regularly scheduled program in about a year from now (okay, maybe over exaggeration, but still)
Kid update just for fun. Madison is regressing with her sleep. She ASKS to take naps now. That would be AMAZING for me except after Labor day she starts full day kindergarten. Cait has a doctors appointment today. She has bug bites that I believe have gotten infected. She has an adverse reaction to bug bites anyway, but last year when we were in Illinois she had to go to the urgent care and they put her on antibiotics to clear it up. I would hate for them to say, oh she should have been seen earlier. I am going down to Renee's house on Friday and we are going to go have the girls fitted for their uniforms. I am excited for that.
ON to the remodel.
Have you ever heard of the 7 plagues at the end of the bible??? Well, I think our house might be having the modern version of them. Day 1 was water/flood right? Day 2, was bees (comparing them to locus). Randy had two walls of drywall in the bathroom that he decided to take out. After he got those out he thought he would just pull out the drywall on the ceiling. When he did and the risers were exposed, he saw all this crap covering one whole riser and part of another. (each riser sits about 12 inches across and it was about 3 feet deep.) He stuck his hand in there to tear it out not knowing what it was...A (FREAKIN) BEEHIVE!!! There must be a little gap between the brick of the first floor and the siding of the second.. I thank goodness was not here to witness it. Randy said the majority of the swarm was the juvenile bees, but they were everywhere. Randy ran to the store, got spray and they did get it under control. We are lucky in two aspects. One, there is plastic up over the family room and over the stairs, so the bees couldn't get into the rest of the house. The second is we are lucky he took down the ceiling drywall. It was an unplanned portion of the demo. He decided at the last minute to pull it down. Can you imagine? They definitely didn't make that nest overnight. Can you imagine how big it could have gotten? Randy also pulled up the tile and the hardwood does NOT go through the kitchen.. Bummer. It was in the foyer, but it didn't have any character. IT was just straight planks with no deviation. Randy pulled that up.
We also went to a kitchen designer last night. The last of the plans. we liked how this guy worked. (although it was more expensive than Randy had hoped) This guy had EVERYTHING taken care of. He had even added too many extra features (pull out drawers, lazy susans, decorative features etc) I cut a lot of the pull out drawers because I need the weight and the drawers don't allow for as much weight as all of my pottery weighs. Also the pantry is smaller than what I had hoped, so took the drawers out of there as well to get the most out of the space. Something Randy added, to the remodel is windows. I think he is replacing ALL of the windows. I know it is at least on the first floor if not the entire house. We still don't have an exact plan, cabinets, counter tops appliances etc, but we have made forward movements on it. We have narrowed it down to two or three of all the stuff. Hopefully I will have no new news to report for today, day 3.
Oh man. If I am able to get all of this pounding out of my head it will be an amazing thing. And so it continues...

Bees! Oh my! Made me think of that story that was in the news recently of the hive hidden like that in someone's house. Lucky you guys found it! I cannot imagine all the demolition. Sounds like you're going to have a brand new house!
Holy moly! Things are ca-ray-zee at your house!
It is all going to be worth it in the end!
2 words: YOU'RE AMAZING!
I am so excited to see pictures of the final product. Just keep in mind, it will all be worth it!!!
I don't see how this could be anything but a remodel blog with all that going on in your house! It sounds just NUTS!
Hey, if you open up a Best Buy Reward Zone card you will get back a nice little amount.
I've really enjoyed all of the work you've put into tracking and blogging your awesome remodel project. It's been fascinating to see all of the steps in your process. We've been planning a kitchen remodel of our own to begin early next year. While I'm excited to have a brand new kitchen, I'm scared to death about trying to function without a kitchen in the meantime! Aack! It looks like you are doing a fantastic job of coping and are moving with great speed despite all of the crazy things you've encountered in the meantime. I will be following you closely to learn from the pros!
Good luck to you!
